who, this? this —
—this is me (and cue record scratch).
you’re probably wondering how i got into this mess...
~~~
hah, just kiddin. i wouldn’t dream of doing the ratatouille freeze-frame voiceover to you at you.
really i don’t know what i’m doing here. i’ve only vaguely heard of substack, and i have no solid idea of what i’m looking to get out of it. it honestly could end up a self-important, self-conscious tap routine on edge of The Algorithmic Void… but maybe that’s ok? because i do know one thing: i just like making things. as long as i make this “making a thing”, i’ll be good.
if i were to assign this some semblance of structure, i’m going to be blogging as a retrospective for finished projects of yore, a space for “thinking out loud” with works-in-progress, and as an avenue of reflection on just music/media/process/whatever in general. i’d really love for this to be a place where my very talented friends can try out a writerly version of the “social media takeover”, and whip up some guest posts on some of their wacky ideas, too. that’s probably my only “loftier” goal for this sort of thing.
i have no idea how consistently i’ll be posting - might be monthly, bimonthly, semidecadedly, who’s to say? in all reality the dizzy bridges substack will probably devolve into mostly running lists of wordplay and malapropisms i want to mine for lyrics in the future, maybe a photo-journal of weird pics that don’t fit on my instagram, or scribblings of poem stanzas i’ll never do anything with. perhaps even some embedded audio of song sketches i’m working on and such… basically an online version of my songwriting and free-writing books chilling around my apartment.
long story short, i won’t really think too hard about this digital footprint. i’m pretty quiet and checked out on social media typically. but if my main emission online is just me chaotically trying to be creative, there’s something i really like about that. like i said, i just like making things. it’s really that simple.
